When you work in the wedding industry (or any industry for that matter), you tend to speak in lingo! This can certainly be confusing for someone who isn’t familiar with all of the terms that come along with planning a wedding. We are here to break them down for you!
Floral installations are typically large statement pieces. These can range from extensive greenery and hanging blooms in a tent to an intricate ceremony arch. They often require professional knowledge regarding the mechanics, specialty rigging and specific greenery or blooms that work well and that will be necessary to achieve the desired look. The larger and more complex the installation is, the bigger the budget needed. However, they can make a BIG impact on your overall wedding design.
Delivery: The process of transporting and dropping the flowers from point A to point B. This does not include any on-site labor work. For example, when you order pizza for delivery, the delivery person does not bring the pizza in the house to then plate and serve it to your guests with a pretty napkin and a cold drink.
Install / Set-up: This is the process of on-site labor work such as building out a beautiful lush arch or created a statement bar piece.
Strike: The process of returning at the end of the event to remove the rented pieces and/or take down the hanging greenery inside the reception space.
Garland is a constructed, wired design full of lush and sometimes multiple types of greenery. It can’t be hung and easily transported from one location to another. It also allows the option to pop in gorgeous blooms because it is a structural base. Whereas loose cut greenery is just that. It’s taking stems of greenery, cutting it, and loosely laying it end to simulate an airy garland-feel. There are restrictions on doing loose greenery outdoors due to wind concerns, but it’s MUCH more cost-effective than a constructed garland. With loose cut greenery, you have fewer options for what types of greenery can be cut and not look like dying scraps on a table (looking at you silver dollar eucalyptus).

A mood board and a color palette is a visual representation that will show the look and feel of the entire event design. This tool can be very helpful to send to vendors such as stationery designer, florist, cake and dessert. This will allow that vendor to ensure their design will cohesively match the entire event. When we are creating a proposal for a potential client we will create a mini mood board to ensure that we are matching the exactly what they want and once a client books with our team, we create a full mood board just for them!
When you hear the term personals or personal flowers, this is a descriptor for any item that the wedding party will hold or wear. i.e. Bouquets, Boutonnieres, and corsages.
